Maintenance is the name of the game when it comes to keeping up our homes. Lack of time is another piece of everyday reality. What helps out tremendously is getting help from iRobot’s Roomba.
Having a Roomba robot vaccum has been a sweet surprise as well as being extremely beneficial. When first using “Rosie” (the name coming from the Jetson’s of course), I used it while I was home so I could watch how she performed her job! I was mesmerized as she moved up and down, in and out of each room, easily going under ALL of the furniture and imparting visions of never having dust bunnies under the bed again. Yayyy!!!! 🙂
The model I have is the 650, which does not have a full bin sensor, but there are newer models at the lower prices, that do. Not having the sensor concerned me initially, but surprisingly it has not been an issue. I’ve had Rosie for a few years now and have not forgotten to empty it before her next scheduled run.
When I empty the bin I also remove the filter and knock the dust off. I also vacuum or blow the filter out periodically.
One caveat is to make sure that you use the included virtual wall to keep it out of places where you have peepee pads that pet poop might be left as Roomba will attempt to vacuum it up… and it won’t be pretty! I speak from experience 🙁
On the bright side, Roomba is modular. This 
means that most every part – including the battery and individual wheel assemblies, as well as the brushes and filter can be purchased and easily replaced.
You can preset it to vacuum up to 7 times per week, so it cleans when it’s convenient for you. If you want to vacuum on the spur of the moment, just push a button on the top of the Roomba and off it goes. Setting a schedule is easy and subject to individual needs. I set it for Saturday while I’m home and then Monday & Wednesday while I’m at work. I love coming home and seeing the random cleaning runway stripes all over the place.
